Case Study: FraudScore for Game Developer. How to save 25% of traffic budgets
101XP: “Fraud detection helps both us and our partners. We are able to set high traffic requirements and get the best from our partnerships“
FraudScore interviews Ksenia Koroleva, Chief Marketing Officer in 101XP. Ksenia has more than 6 years of experience in the gaming industry, specializing in marketing, and is experienced with both tiny startups and huge corporations. Ksenia has been working in user acquisition and PR.
About the company:
101XP is one of the leading platforms and game publishers in CIS with 10 years of publishing experience. Now, there are more than 170+ employees working on different projects in the company. 101XP has released more than 50 projects on various platforms since 2010 and is widely known for the “League of Angels” franchise published in Russia and for “Era of Legends” published worldwide.
Ksenia: I’ve already used to work with FraudScore for 3 years. We trusted our user acquisition audit to FraudScore and when I joined 101XP I made a presentation of the product and proved that it is reliable and a great solution for the publisher.
Could you describe in more detail how you utilize FraudScore in your daily business processes?
We use FraudScore for both our mobile and desktop (browser and client games) projects. We specify the use of FraudScore in IO and contracts with an absolute majority of our partners.
The main users of the product are our UA managers. We check and audit traffic with almost all partners on a weekly basis. So as a result, we always have the quantity of fraud traffic and its shares from various partners in our reports.
When you started to work with FraudScore — what made you choose our platform?
I used to work with FraudScore for 3 years as I mentioned before. The product has already proven to be effective in fraud detection, an easy-to-use solution with a very transparent system for partners. It’s important that FraudScore works with both mobile and desktop traffic. An important factor for us is having excellent customer service, 24/7 support in Russian, and a willingness to understand our requirements and meet us halfway.
Can you describe how you use FraudScore data about detected fraud? What decisions do you make?
In general, we began to eliminate fraud from partners — if fraud was detected, we rejected this traffic. We are also now clearing out the web fraudsters when working with our applications.
We also state to our potential partners that traffic checks via FraudScore is an obligatory measure in our contracts and it is legally included in the terms and conditions.
Can you share some results as to how you have efficiently utilized FraudScore in taking actionable measures?
Together with FraudScore data scientists and managers, we’ve conducted research — we’ve made specific reports for traffic quality analysis and compared it with our budgets spent from May 2018 to the end of January 2019.
Thanks to FraudScore fraud detection we have saved around 25% of our traffic budgets. This figure is truly remarkable! As a developer, we need to know that our budgets are spent efficiently and there are no hidden holes where our money is running. FraudScore has become a sort of insurance for us — we guarantee that we are protected from fraud and that our budgets are spent on real traffic.
Can you give any advice or recommendations to developers, our potential clients?
We recommend that you do your best to understand the reasons for detected fraud — so that you have a 100% certainty and understanding of the case. Any system might make mistakes. Having said that, you shouldn’t be afraid to insist on applying a traffic verification system and don’t stigmatize fraud as is.
Unfortunately, a network simply can’t control all webs or sub-ids, so it’s my firm belief that anti-fraud solution is helping not just us as a developer, but also our partners. We keep traffic quality high, we accept that it needs to be checked and we trust each other with our business investments.
FraudScore is both a very reliable and convenient solution. It provides absolutely comprehensive information on the quality of traffic, detected fraud categories, and reasons for fraud. We highly appreciate that FraudScore doesn’t use and operate with a “black box” — it gives us a total picture of detected fraud for all conversions that we check. And of course, it’s very important for us that FraudScore works with the desktop.
Zarina Shirinkina, FraudScore BDO — 101XP is a great example of an extraordinary game developer who puts a lot of effort into securing its own budgets by fighting ad fraud themselves. They don’t simply trust the statistics from networks for the acquired traffic — they analyze data every day to make sure that every dollar is invested into a real user. By using FraudScore and learning how to detect and deal with fraud, 101XP is building a network of trustworthy partners and filter those who are not that reliable. FraudScore solution helps 101XP save money and work with partners who are aware of fraud problems and are ready to fight it.
